Kasteel Het Nijenhuis

Kasteel Het Nijenhuis, one of the Museum de Fundatie sites, is situated in between the villages of Heino and Wijhe. This beautifully preserved manor house was occupied until 1984 by Dirk Hannema, founder of the Museum de Fundatie and former director of the Boymans museum in Rotterdam. In addition to displaying part of Hannema’s own collection, the castle also regularly hosts temporary exhibitions. Furthermore, works by well-known artists from the Netherlands and abroad can be seen in the sculpture garden. Refreshments are served at Het Nijenhuis in the excellent museum café called Hannema’s, plus on a summer’s day the sculpture garden – with its hundred white chairs – is the ideal place for a picnic!
